The Good Shepherd

The Good Shepherd
April 26 - May 2
"Very truly, I tell you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold by the gate but climbs in by another way is a thief and a bandit. The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hears his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out." (John 10:1-2)
Devotional: Newborns learn to recognize their mother’s voice at an early stage of development. Their mother’s voice gives them a sense of safety, and they feel protected from unknown dangers in the world. Like newborns, sheep recognize the unique voice of the Shepherd’s call. Another’s voice, they will not listen to. Sheep rely on the Shepherd for care and protection. They need guidance when they can’t find their way. They follow Him and He calls them by name. We are like sheep, listening to the voice of the Good Shepherd. When Jesus calls us through reading the Scripture or the Holy Spirit speaking to us, we respond and are able to enjoy fellowship with Him. We experience the peace and security of being cared for by Christ. So, let us be more attentive to listening to the voice of the Good Shepherd who wants to lead, protect and guide us away from danger. When we listen to Jesus and follow Him, we will be safe and protected.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, where I have not listened to recognize your voice, help me to be more attentive so that I might hear You when you speak. Let me not follow the voice of a stranger. In Your Name Jesus, I pray!
Reflection Question: When have you heard the voice of Jesus calling you? How did you respond?
